Anyone experienced any rudeness from other bikers, purely for being a GS rider? I've recently got hold of an old GS1150 as I was heading off on a Pyrenees trip and my late 80s Japanese adventure bike developed an air leak that I couldn't quickly sort out.
Anyway, riding out of Cambridge the other day, another biker (Japanese sportsbike) was coming in the other direction. I gave them the customary head nod which he returned with a full on wan£ker gesture.
WTAF? Do people really hate GS riders?
I'd always assumed it was just a bit of banter.

He gave you the wker sign because GS riders are not meant to acknowledge non GS riders , instead of nodding at other bikers you should have stared straight ahead projecting your aloofness , especially if they nod at you.

I have so nearly become a GS rider over the years. Long road tests on various versions going back to the air cooled models.
I would have been a W@4k3r tho' as it would only have been used on my 8 mile outer London to inner London commute and I would have held up everyone behind me trying to filter
But I have to say that to see a GS being fed at speed through gridlocked traffic is an admirable thing to witness

I was driving an old series Land Rover, I did the customary wave to a brand new defender and got a middle finger in return.
Some people are just dicks, don’t worry about it.

I've only had aggro from other bikers twice. Both times by riders on GSs.
I don't have any issue with GSs, or the riders, but they do seem to attract some of the road captain types.

They really do - and all the tat they cover their bikes in. Makes for good entertainment though as you can play “GS Bingo” trying to spot who has bolted on every single thing - the trouble is that the bingo card keeps growing as you see more things. Last time it was fire extinguisher on the crash bars. “Fat wife pillion” is in there too.
We were up near Hawes a couple of years ago near the Ribblehead Viaduct and there was a huge convoy of GS wkers puttering along , behind them was a honking great line of vehicles all stuck in a line, including a caravan.
Even caravanners hate GS wkers

A lot of my friends have moved from sports/naked bikes to GS's, one of them started this group on FB, "GS W*nkers", they have hoodies, badges and all sorts of stuff.

Assuming you don't have blinding tosser lights then I can't see why a GS would be anything to get upset about?

Not seen that but I had a Flying Brick for a while and it was like the Honda Jazz of the bike world.
It was irrelevant how fast you were going, you just had to be overtaken. I saw a few sketchy moments.

I ride a GS.
Never had a problem with other riders. I make sure to nod at all other riders. Even a thumbs up when overtaking or being overtaken.
I have to admit if I see a GS rider with the entire Denali catalogue bonded on to the front of the bike trying to perform some FOC laser eye surgery while stood on the pegs, even I think that’s a bit wker-ish

GS rider here...I don't nod at anyone. One bloke I see on my commute gets really annoyed everyone and it does make me chuckle.
(I also don't wave at everyone I see driving just because we have the same mode of transport).

Nah, I still acknowledge GS riders, even if it's only to point, laugh and shake my head at them..

People who buy new Defenders. If I had to guess, I reckon I could describe the driver: 5'8", shaved head, all biceps and no legs, black shirt two sizes too small, and a permanently embarrassed wife.

I'm kinda in this camp. Just because we share a kind of transport doesn't make us acquaintances.
It's even worse here in 'Merica..... they have this stupid "two fingers down/inverted V" sign. I'm an equal opportunity ignoring type though. They get blanked or if I'm feeling particularly ornery, a lazy one finger salute with the knuckles resting on the grip. Really don't want to extend too much energy into the whole thing obviously.
As for GS W@nkers, yep, ANYONE riding a GS of any vintage is a James Hunt.
I've had two

Non-biker here just out of curiosity.......why would there be any hatred of GS bikes/GS bikers?

As someone who can't grow a beard for love nor money, I've always been envious of GS riders.

I think it’s the Long Way Round Ewen & Charley thing that some people don’t like. Like somehow they’re not “real” “bikers”.
